Welcome to ZAPP, a 'Whack-a-Mole' style reaction game inspired by the electronic games of the 70's & 80's. The unit can run in two modes, Arcade & Party. When set to Arcade mode, only the main game is avaliable. In Party mode all of the games are avaliable to play from the menu.
⤾Arcade Mode
The goal is simple, score as many points as you can. This is acheived by pressing the blue, Green & Gold buttons when they light up
When the unit is waiting for a new game to start it will display PLAY ZAPP HIGH <score>. To start a new game just press any of the play buttons
Once the game has started press the blue buttons as they appear, but be quick as the buttons soon change and you don't want to miss any points. If you manage to get 80% or more of the blue buttons then you will progress to the next round. Each round gets more difficult as the game gets quicker.
Green and Gold are bonus buttons, they give you extra points. These disappear once the blue button has been pressed.
Oh, nearly forget to mention the reds, you'll want to avoid these as they take points away and reduce your accuracy.
Enjoy playing ZAPP, you'll soon get the hang of it. Pro Tip - use two hands!
⤾Party Mode
The menu lists the games which are avaliable to play. Each game will display its name and highlight with a white button what to press. A game can be selected by pressing its button at any time.
The games avaliable are:
ZAPP | Launches the main game as is avaliable in Arcade mode |
BASH | Reaction game for upto 8 players. As soon as your button goes blue hit that button. Quickest finger wins! |
PAIR | Match the buttons by their colour. Once matched the pair of buttons will go white. Find the four pairs of colours |
MIND | This is a Simon type game, but with a twist. Watch the pattern and then repeat it back, this one is far more difficult than it sounds 😊 |
SPIN | A roulette game, press the button as the light comes round. |
QUIZ | Fastest finger first, for use during quiz night |
WAVE | Not a game but for those who remember the 90's. Each of the buttons sets the tempo for the multi colour display |
DUAL | A two player version of ZAPP, first to 50 is the winner |
⤾Reset Button
This does what you would expect it to do, hardware resets the unit. Most of the games will return to the menu when they have finished, but the reset button will allow you to go back without having to finish the game.
If the unit's mode is changed from Arcade to Party or from Party to Arcade then a reset is required for that change to take effect. Please use the Reset Button rather than powering the device down and then back up again as this is kinder to the electronics. Don't worry, this does not reset any of the high scores.
⤾Test Mode
When the unit is set to Party mode, holding down any button whist ZAPP is starting will cause the unit to go into test mode. This allows all of the buttons to be checked to make sure that everything is working as expected. Each button press also plays a note, although Roland have nothing to be worried about :-)
To exit and go back to the main menu just push the reset button
